Every elderly person in Ireland has the right to live with dignity, safety, and respect. Every elderly person has the right to remain in their own home for as long as they wish and as long as it is safe to do so, supported by whatever state assistance makes this possible. Institutionalisation shall never be the default option where home care is achievable. Institutions providing care for elderly people shall be subject to rigorous, independent, and unannounced inspection, with results publicly available. Neglect or abuse of an elderly person is a serious criminal offence. No elderly person shall be financially exploited. Every elderly person has the right to participate in the life of their community.
Every elderly person has the absolute right to choose their own approach to their health and wellbeing — including natural remedies, traditional healing, and any other method they judge appropriate — without interference, pressure, or substitution by any institution or authority. Those who have spent their lives contributing to Ireland shall be honoured in their later years with security, dignity, and genuine care.
