Article 5 — Culture and Identity

The culture, traditions, music, folklore, sport, and living heritage of the Irish people are a national treasure. The state has an active duty to protect and promote them — not merely to avoid destroying them. Irish culture shall be taught, celebrated, and carried forward. No policy of the state shall be permitted to erode, dilute, or replace the cultural identity of the Irish people. The protection of national culture and identity is a constitutional obligation enforceable by any citizen before the courts. The specific constitutional protection of sport and physical wellbeing is established in Article 6.
